The Main Focus of Nutritional Consulting & Counselling is Wellness and Building Health
Ultimately, the cells in our bodies are built from the raw materials we eat. The more suitable our food choices are to our specific requirements, the better cell structures we can build.
Since every person is bio-chemically unique, individual nutritional imbalances and weaknesses must be assessed.
An RNCP will introduce new dietary habits, incorporating the latest nutritional breakthroughs, but it may be difficult to achieve optimal health through food alone. In such cases, RNCP re trained to design personalized dietary supplement programs.
Environmental pollution, metal toxicity, micro-organism imbalances and food sensitivities are among other factors that must be considered in constructing a nutritional program .
Nutritional Consulting is not a regulated profession. However, the IONC was established in 1983 to assure the public that practitioners are meeting high educational standards. Because of this, certain insurance companies are now covering RNCP services.
The designation "Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner" signifies a nutritional practitioner who has met the standards of the IONC - a voluntary, independent, non-profit association.
What is a Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner (RNCP)?
Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioners (RNCP) are professionals trained in holistic nutrition and complementary therapies. RNCPs can educate you about the benefits of a sound nutritional program and healthy lifestyle to encourage your body to achieve optimum health and energy. RNCPs follow a code of ethics.
Did you know that every person is biochemically unique? RNCPs can assess individual nutritional imbalances and weaknesses to enhance your immune system and recommend specific diets and nutritional support to help you build and maintain well-being.
Confused and frustrated with trying to figure out what diet is the healthiest for you? RNCPs can help you make the best possible food choices. It is important to eat a variety of foods to ensure all essential nutrients are included in the diet. An RNCP will introduce new dietary habits, incorporating the latest nutritional breakthroughs. However, it may be difficult to achieve optimal health through food alone. In such cases, RNCPs are trained to design personalized dietary supplement programs.
Are you overwhelmed by all the holistic nutrition-related information in the public forum? RNCPs can help you navigate confidently through this maze, designing an individualized program respecting your unique biochemistry and enhancing your well-being. In the past, it was the custom to follow the Canada Food Guide in order to achieve dietary wellness. However, we now are aware that it does not meet the nutritional requirements for superior health. It does not meet even basic requirements for everyone, as we are all different, and our dietary needs vary greatly.
For example, until food sensitivities are corrected, some people must avoid certain foods, such as most breads and pasta if gluten intolerant, and dairy if lactose intolerant or casein intolerant. For others, it may be necessary to eat alkaline foods while detoxifying; therefore, the suggested two or three servings of meat per day in the Canada Food Guide would be inappropriate for a time.
Environmental pollution, metal toxicity, micro-organism imbalances, and allergies, are among the other factors that RNCPs consider in constructing a personalized nutritional program.
RNCPs are certified by the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (IONC). The IONC is a voluntary, non-profit, incorporated organization. It was founded in 1983 to create public awareness about holistic nutritional consulting and to regulate the standards of education for holistic nutritional consultants. Qualifications for those who apply for professional membership as RNCPs are independently assessed.
Professional members of IONC are those who have met its strict educational and ethical standards. They are granted exclusive use of the title, “Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner” (RNCP). Professional members living in Alberta are granted the exclusive designation “Nutritional Consulting Practitioner” (NCP).
By law, anyone may call themselves a nutritional counsellor, but only those who have thoroughly studied nutrition and have met the requirements of IONC are granted the RNCP or NCP designation.
Many RNCPs complement their nutritional counselling practice with various other therapies such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, and dietary supplements. They network with other complementary health professionals and make referrals when necessary.
Within IONC are nutritional consultants who are also registered nurses, naturopathic doctors, dentists, dieticians, chiropractors, veterinarians, acupuncturists, herbalists, homeopaths, iridologists and massage therapists.
A visit to an RNCP will be an educational experience where you will learn to make lifestyle changes that have a long lasting effect on your quality of life. Many extended health care plans are now covering RNCP service fees for IONC members.
