*It took me a while before I could stomach raw smoothies and juices. I don't recommend that people just hop on a juice or smoothie cleanse right out of the gate, because if you are sick (sometimes or often), it's likely your gut has some (or a lot of) inflammation.
I have found through my journey that to begin the healing process, one might want to start with slow cooked (no oil or fat) veggie soups with loads of celery, carrots and sweet potatoes (no salt). Look up Hippocrates Soup Recipe (I'll add this to a future blog entry). Make a huge batch of it and freeze it in portions (don't eat leftovers, I'll explain another time). Eat this for dinner and at the same time, take out fats, dairy and sodium. Taking sodium out will help balance potassium (helps muscles relax, helps with hypertension etc) and taking out fats will support the liver to regenerate and start working better, and taking out dairy is just a wise thing to do while healing the whole body. I also don't do grains anymore, they always hurt my gut it seems. Oh well. I never say never - so maybe will try grains again in the future. For now- it feels right. Related Post: Acceptance I slowly started to implement the above food restrictions (also this is nutrient dense so it's not really depriving) and in a few weeks I noticed a huge difference in my energy and my body started to release excess gunk, pain and swelling have gone down substantially (going to share more of my before photos and nutritional graphs - stay tuned). Related Post: What Does Self Love Look Like? 3 Doorways Then I started to slowly introduce a little bit of juicing... I have celery juice (about 3-4 stalks) first thing in the morning to balance my HCL (which is the stomach acid that is responsible for good digestion) and this is something I will likely do for as long as I can. I really notice a difference on the days I don't have it. It's quite refreshing and such a blessing. I also make a carrot juice at the same time to have later in the day. I will definitely be blogging more about my all of my food / lifestyle experiences and transformation in the days to come (let's jam)... The smoothie in this photo is my breakfast most days- or sometimes my lunch. I've even made this smoothie twice in a day- and have it shortly before bed, believe t or not, it helps me calm down before bed. It has apple, cucumber, mango, parsley, ginger, garlic, turmeric, lucama powder (Peruvian fruit superfood powder) and water. I've never had garlic in my smoothie yet and ya know, it all tastes pretty good but I also feel so grateful to be able to do this and there is something very different about making fresh food smoothies. The living foods make a difference. Did you know there are pre and probiotics on the skin of fruits? I also can't imagine a day without turmeric now either, it really helps me with inflammation. I am really loving whole, fresh, natural, clean food again. It's been the difference between chronic fatigue, pain and bloated or energy and building strength and confidence again in myself.
